Abstract: Aluminum powder, known also as McIntyre Powder, was packed into cylindrical canisters measuring about 5 cm high and 3 cm in diameter. The canisters contained a fine respirable powder of approximately 85% aluminum oxide and 15% aluminum. It was produced, patented, marketed, and sold by the McIntyre Research Foundation in Toronto, Canada. First used in 1943, it was widely adopted, mostly by silica-generating mines – predominantly gold mines – but also by factories where workers were exposed to silica.
