Project Summary:

The use of gloves made of natural rubber latex (NRL) has been linked to IgE-mediated allergy in sensitive individuals. The allergenic potential of NRL gloves can be assessed by measurement of concentrations of specific allergenic proteins.
This study aims to quantify the amount of specific allergens found in NRL gloves used by National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) employees in South Africa. This will help to identify gloves that have the least potential of causing occupational health problems.
