The training done by the Section includes:
  • Training of occupational health professionals (e.g. dermatology registrars are offered an opportunity to training in our Skin Disease Clinic).
  • We contribute to learning programmes in occupational health (e.g. DOH, MPH).
  • Tailored presentations (relevant to occupational allergies and infectious diseases) can be given to workers. These include:
    • Occupational skin disease.
    • Specific effects of substances used in workplace on skin.
    • Contact dermatitis.
    • Latex related occupational disease.
    • Hazardous biological agents.
    • Legionella in the workplace.
    • Bioaerosols and the influence on indoor air quality.
  • In-service programmes for students completing the diploma in biotechnology with the aim of preparing them for employment in the laboratory setting. The training is a one year programme in the field of Immunology and Microbiology.
  • We also offer medical internships for science students with a Microbiology background. A BSc honours degree is a pre-requisite. This is a two year training programme.
  • We also support post-graduate students wanting to pursue a career in occupational health on the following focus areas (occupational allergies and asthma, exposure assessments for biological agents).
  • Informal training on the above focus areas as well as practical laboratory work are also offered as required.
