Surveillance has formed part of the research agenda of the NIOH for many years. In particular, two cohort studies were initiated in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Prieska Cohort and the Paper and Pulp workers cohorts respectively. More recently, trends in cancer incidence and mortality has been added to the surveillance focus area.
