titleText[2] = "The Occupational Diseases in Mines and Works Act (Act 78 of 1973) makes provision for the <strong>Autopsy Examination</strong> of the cardio respiratory organs of deceased persons who are or were employed at controlled mines or works, regardless of the clinical cause of death.<br /><br />The Pathology Division undertakes these examinations on behalf of the Medical Bureau for Occupational Diseases and the findings are considered by the Certification Committee for Occupational Diseases. About 2,500 autopsies are performed annually, resulting in benefit payments totaling millions of rand. ";
titleText[3] = "The Occupational Medicine Division provides clinical <strong>Occupational Medicine Referral Services</strong> to workers with possible occupational diseases and assists with submission of compensation claims for those who qualify.<br /><br />Assessments of patients include a medical examination, chest x-ray and lung function tests where indicated. A chest x-ray is reported by a senior radiologist experienced in occupational diseases. A final report is issued to the referring partner as soon as the case is finalized. Cases that qualify for compensation are submitted to the compensation office and followed up until they are finalized.";
titleText[4] = "The main focus areas of the <strong>Epidemiology and Surveillance</strong> section are surveillance, research and teaching of occupational epidemiology and consultation.<br /><br />The section collaborates with other sections and institutions to support strategic development and research into nationally important needs, such as women and reproductive health.";
titleText[5] = "The <strong>Ergonomics Unit</strong> conducts ergonomic related research.<br /><br />It performs ergonomic risk assessments at various workplaces and Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome clinical assessments of workers who operate vibrating hand tools. The unit also offers ergonomics training to occupational health practitioners and responds to queries on ergonomic issues such as manual material handling, musculoskeletal disorders, computer workstation design and layout. The Unit provides also ergonomics teaching and training of occupational health practitioners through formal and informal teaching. ";
titleText[6] = "The <strong>Immunology and Microbiology</strong> section provides a service primarily aimed at evaluating the association between hypersensitivity or disease and workplace exposure achieved by the immunological or microbiological laboratory tests and/or visits the workplace to evaluate possible allergen, irritant or pathogen exposure.<br /><br />We provide a wide range of specialized tests in the following focus areas bioaerosols, occupational allergies and waterborne pathogens. Our services also include consultations on sampling, health hazard evaluations and general queries on our focus areas. Many of the services are provided in collaboration with other sections of the NIOH .";
titleText[7] = "The <strong>AJ Orenstein Library</strong> came into being in the early 1960’s. It was named after Major General Doctor A. J Orenstein who had made a notable contribution in the field of Pneumoconiosis in South African miners.<br /><br />The library is a valuable national resource being the only occupational health library in Southern Africa. The library houses an extensive collection of books including the ILO encyclopedia covering all aspects of occupational health and safety. The library also houses a print journal collection (both local & international) and provides access to over 5 951 electronic journal titles.";
titleText[8] = "The <strong>Occupational Hygiene</strong> section of the NIOH provides information and advice about occupational health and safety to help promote safe and healthy working environments. This includes: information on health hazards; interpretation of exposure limits; proper selection of Personal Protective Equipment; substitution of hazardous materials; engineering or administrative control methods; legal obligations and good industry practice. We provide the following services:  advice on preventing or reducing occupational illnesses and conditions in workplaces; occupational hygiene surveys and health risk assessments; workplace monitoring to assess worker exposure to chemical and physical hazards; comprehensive asbestos information, monitoring, counting, and evaluation service.";
titleText[9] = "The <strong>Occupational Medicine</strong> section gives professional advice to practitioners, employers, employees and employee representatives on various occupational health issues. The section consists of two units, namely: the Occupational Medicine Referral Clinic and the Ergonomics Unit.  This section's mission is to create better workplaces for workers through research, clinical services, ergonomic risk assessments and teaching and training of occupational health practicioners, employees and their representatives. There is a reciprocal relationship with other sections within the NIOH, providing support for their routine services and research, and utilising their expertise in specialised areas where required.";
titleText[10] = "The <strong><a href=\"?page=pathology&id=58\" title=\"Pathology Division\">Pathology Division</a></strong> is involved in teaching and training, research and service work.<br /><br />The origins of the division lie in the Pneumoconiosis Research Unit that was founded in 1959. The focus remains on lung disease and the service work provides some of the material for teaching and research. In addition to postmortem services offered, the division is a referral centre for lung biopsies. Within the division there is an analytical electron microscopy unit and a compensation service.";
titleText[11] = "In line with the NIOH’s mission the <strong><a href=\"?page=toxicology&id=59\" title=\"Toxicology\">Toxicology</a></strong> section is committed to promote research in collaboration with national and international scientific institutions, provide specialized services, contribute to capacity development by training and teaching occupational toxicology to undergraduate and post graduate students and also provide consultation to governmental departments and industry in Occupational Toxicology.<br /><br />The delivery of the aforementioned functions in the section is achieved through the four specialized units namely; Genotoxicity Unit, Health Risk Assessment (HRA) Unit, Nano and Micro Particle Toxicity Unit and Toxicogenomics Unit.";
